Excellent toolkit for parents

I read Smart Parenting Revolution by Dawna Markova a few years ago, and it helped me immeasurably with my two children, both of whom were struggling in public schools. I just picked up I AM Smart and it's a quick, easy read with so many practical tools and different perspectives for understanding my children, and what to do about it to support them in school. Highly recommend for all parents with school-age children.

About the Author

Dennis Sparks has been executive director of the 10,000-member National Staff Development Council since 1984. He previously was an independent educational consultant and director of the Northwest Staff Development Center. Sparks has been a teacher, counselor, and co-director of an alternative high school. He completed his doctorate in counseling at the University of Michigan in 1976, and has taught at several universities. He speaks frequently throughout North America on topics such as powerful staff development and effective teaching.

Sparks has authored Designing Powerful Professional Development for Teachers and Principals (NSDC, 2002) and Conversations that Matter (NSDC, 2001), a collection of his JSD interviews since 1991. He is co-author with Stephanie Hirsh of Learning to Lead, Leading to Learn (NSDC, 2000) and A New Vision for Staff Development (ASCD/NSDC, 1997). He also co-authored, with Joan Richardson, What is Staff Development Anyway? (NSDC, 1998).

Sparks’ column appears each month NSDC's newsletter, Results. His interviews with leading educational thinkers also appear in NSDC'sJournal of Staff Development. Entrelaza la situación personal del abogado defensor y un acusado que ni siquiera puede defenderse pues no recuerda nada de lo que se le acusa. Las descripciones del sur del país son frescas y reales. Disfrute mucho su lectura y el final me encanto. Deberían hacerlo una película! Lo recomiendo mucho si les gusta la lectura amena, interesante sin malas palabras ni descripciones de sexo.

Hubiera podido ser un magnifico libro, con una trama muy interesante para los que somos amantes de los thrillers legales. El abuso de el tema religioso hace al lector saltar paginas enteras y a veces capitulos de aspectos que no vienen al caso y habian debido ser tratados de una manera mas light. Es una verdadera lastima que un autor con tanta capacidad para escribir este tipo de literatura la desperdicie de esta forma.

Environmental Science 101

Here is a book that will give you all the basics of environmental science. Miller updates his book every 2 years, so the information is not only relevant, it's completely current. (Very difficult with such a fast paced topic.)
The book provides all the basic ground work for continuing to study or just be involved with what's going on in the environment.
There are chapters on basic science terms, population, energy, biodiversity, pollution, hazardous waste, economics and politics.
For example, if you want to know what the US Fish and Wildlife group has done historical, currently and what different groups would like them to do now and why, it's all in this book.
Absolutely fascinating reading for anyone who want's to know what all the noise is about our environment.

Sustaining the Earth

Environmental preservation is such an important subject that it should be presented in a manner that anyone can understand. This book burries the reader, with it's run-on sentances, with mind boggling fact after mind boggling fact. The grammar was so bad that it ultimately stunted my motivation for reading the text not more than half way through. I reccomend looking elsewhere in order to educate yourself on bio-eccological concerns.
