Part I, focusing on aspects of the self and questions of technique, covers such topics as the role of interpretation of transference and resistance; the relationship of bulimia, dissociation, and empathy; eating disorders as displacement from psychological self to body self; boundaries in the psychotherapeutic relationship; and an interpersonal psychoanalytic technique for treatment. Part II, addressing special subpopulations, discusses the implications of treating eating disorders with patients who also exhibit masochism, borderline personality disorder, and false-self/narcissistic disorders. This section also includes a unique chapter that delves into gender identity issues in male bulimia nervosa. Part III, reflecting feminist psychodynamic perspectives, offers new ways of thinking about development, countertransference, and the role of therapist in the treatment of women with eating disorders. Part IV examines the integration of such approaches as object relations and family systems, psychodynamic and behavior therapy, and offers discussion on disorders of the self in anorexia nervosa.

After reading many books on military hardware, this book is easy to read and informative. A must have for any F-14 fan. I learned a great deal about an aircraft that I considered myself as knowledgeable. A must buy.

If you are serious about learning about the F-14, get this book!

This is truly one of the great classic books on one of the most iconic fighter planes in history. (Let's be honest - how many of us wished that we could fly the F-14 when we saw Tom Cruise in Top Gun!) Written before the Tomcat was out of service, but with its days numbered, this book is packed full of information about the F-14. It will clearly show the plane, warts and all.

If you are really serious about learning about the Tomcat, this book needs to be in your library.

Everything you wanted out of an F-14 book plus something extra!

This is THE book for Grumman's venerable F-14 Tomcat. Sure, some other books like Tomcat Alley by David F. Brown might beat it in the pictorial department, but overall the information in the articles plus the photos it already has beat any other book about the F-14 Tomcat. Everything about the Tomcat until the books date of publication is covered. From the early beginnings of the Navy's need for a Fleet Air Defense F6D Missileer and the VFX competition that Grumman won all the way to the combat record and current strike attack roles. Every F-14 variant is covered, even the ones that were only concept models. Plus great artistic renderings of historic F-14s. A lot of the articles here came from World Air Power Journal's F-14 cover issue back in the early 90s, but the information here is updated such as the squadron deployments, squadron disestablishments and the wars in Eastern Europe. All F-14 Squadrons in the US Navy are covered, and even some stuff about the IIAF/IRIAF F-14s. If all that isn't enough, there's a foreword by F-14 Tomcat pilot D. Stuart Broce, the VF-1 pilot who shot down a Mi-8 helicopter during Desert Storm. It's very interesting and heart warming to read. This book might be hard to find now, but if you get a chance, get it! 5 / 5 STARS!

This is a great book for serious western desert lovers.

This is an awesome book. Even though it is relatively old, the desert doesn't change all that much. I like the editorial detail on the locations, although the sierra-clubbish preaching is a little too heavy. When this author describes a hike as challenging, you'd better be in good shape and well-experienced in the desert. Urban hikers will get their butt kicked out here.

Necessary Antidote to a lot of Deleuze scholarship

A much needed commentary on the dominant interpretations of Deleuze/Deleuze related scholarship!

In contrast to the interpretations of Deleuze as providing us with a philosophy of affirmation, or a thought that seeks to expand the vital powers of "life", and especially a Deleuze that is secretly partisan to the liberal-democratic project (e.g., Nicholas Tampio's text Deleuze's Political Vision), Culp draws out the Deleuze that found redemption not in the joyous but negative affects. This thesis, though counter-intuitive, is instructive in combatting the common sensical demand of transparency regarding new media and social movements. In the domain of aesthetics and politics, Deleuze is often read as a proponent of 'believing in the world' and actualizing this belief via cinematic means.

Dark Deleuze, by contrast, develops the idea that what we need at the present is not the reinstantiation of belief but the cultivation of hatred for the world as it currently exists. Thus, instead of the Deleuze as 'world creator' we find a Deleuze who is a 'destroyer of worlds.' Linking the cultivation of hatred for the world with the project of 'world destruction' becomes even more timely against the backdrop of the ongoing protests in France against the 'El Khomri' labor law (the images of the graffiti/slogan 'une autre fin due monde est possible' have been made viral and resonates here with the project of Dark Deleuze). In this way, we are given an image of Deleuze who affirms the well known communist mantra that communism is not a stage or ending point but the real movement that abolishes the presently existing social relations along with itself in the process. Hence Dark Deleuze is classified in the table of categories found in the text under the heading of 'destroy worlds' as opposed to the popular image (mainly sewn together from general readings of Difference and Repetition and What is Philosophy?) 'create concepts.'

In any event, if there is any future in Deleuze scholarship that can reconnect to the tradition of a radical, insurrectionary, communist movement for our present, Culp's Dark Deleuze is a step in the right direction.
