Educational Psychology: Theory and Practice (10th Edition), by Robert E. Slavin

From renowned educational psychologist, Robert Slavin, the Tenth Edition of this popular text translates theory into practices that teachers can use in their classrooms with deeper inquiry into the concept of intentionality and a thorough integration of standards. This edition highlights current issues and emerging trends in the field of educational psychology.

The tenth edition continues to have in-depth, practical coverage with a focus on the intentional teacher by presenting up-to-the-minute research that a reflective, intentional teacher can apply. An “intentional teacher,” according to Slavin, is one who constantly reflects on his or her practice and makes instructional decisions based on a clear conception of how these practices affect students. To help readers become “intentional teachers,” the author offers a set of questions to guide them and models best practices through classroom examples.

Good text with lots of info, not same as 9th edition!
By JNWade
The text is rich with information, applications, examples and links to other sources of information. The format reminds me a bit of the colorful and text-box-based layout of K-12 texts. The early chapters are rich with research results, and there is information from studies as recent as the last couple of years. However, I bought this edition, thinking that it would be more or less the same as the ninth. A few chapters are rearranged in this edition, though as best as I can tell, the content is the same. Though my text is being used in graduate school, it seems a bit more appropriate for undergraduate studies.

Essential Teacher Tool
By melechdavid
This text integrates the three principal themes of students, teaching, and learning. Throughout the text, relevant material is highlighted which correlates to the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) Standards for Beginning Teacher Licensing and Development. The text is replete with new research, case studies, practical applications, guides to programs and strategies, resources with detailed citations, and a preparation guide for the Praxis Exam (teacher certification tests).

In every chapter, the text models good teaching practices through the timely and strategic employment of content outlines, learning outcomes, introductory and attention-arresting case studies, real-life and cartoon graphics, charts and graphs, vocabulary highlights, reflective thought sections, summaries, and additional resources. Using many examples and suggestions, the text demonstrates how to put educational research to work in the classroom.

Thought provoking and educational
By Beth K.
This is the best textbook I have ever read. In fact, it's the first textbook that I have ever read cover to cover. There is a plethora of excellent information throughout this book with direction on where to learn more. My favorite sections are the Practice into Theory throughout each chapter and the Intentional Teacher located at the end of each chapter. The only section that could use an update is the technology section, but since technology is continually evolving I don't hold this against the publisher or author terribly much.
